Video: María y José - "Granada"

It's been more than a year since the release of Espiritu Invisible (the best Mexican album of 2010), and it still feels like María y José is Mexico's best-kept secret. Every single song on his repertory becomes a sensation among our Indie-Alt circuit, but it's taking people a bit too long to acknowledge how good this guy is. It's in god's plans to see justice being done, and we can't hide our enthusiasm towards Antonio Jimenez once again with the release of this cool DIY video of "Granada" (from his new upcoming album). I recently described this psychedelic bolero as "a romantic statement, a ritualistic song, and a sign of the times" at NPR's AltLatino. With the descriptive subtitle "este video va dedicado a todas ellas" our Tijuana hero puts the q in quirkiness. The religious entrance is sublime, but once the cat meowing starts, it turns into a confessional sequence that almost makes you think of La Mara Salvatrucha, or just realize he's a twenty-something year old with identity issues. I always imagined a video with kids planting grenades at the dancefloor, or a recreation of 'La Danza de los Viejitos,' perhaps I'm the one with issues.

Ya está. El 2011 será el año de María y José. Lástima que el gusto sólo le durará un año. #FindelMundo

People are starting to get why this is the best mexican act... currently. And I truly believe, that Espiritu Invisible will get a cult recognition for many years to come.

I loved Espiritu Invisible, but still, I feel it needed some better production. But for what is worth, it's precious actually.

I think this song, and the last songs (including that great Kibose EP) sound so good, his new album should sound fine and I think it's gonna be great.
