Julieta Venegas - "Bien o Mal"

Julieta’s first single from her upcoming Otra Cosa is now available for streaming at her MySpace. We love her good taste, her songs, but also her nice little gestures; like keeping MySpace at top when it comes to music discovery. While it’s true the social network has decayed into its dummy glitter, “Get ripped without ‘rods” ads and Java contamination, our theory is that it’s going back to its basics, as a platform for emerging bands. Back to “Bien o Mal”, sounds great so far. Considering our staff picked up “Lento” as her career-best moment, this new single is sounding very attractive. Oh, and wonderful back vocals by Miranda!’s Alejandro Sergi! A nice love song framed by warm accordion airs and popping synths, "todas estas melodías no decían nada y ahora dicen mas.”

i can't really tell how the album will shape up, it's pissing me off... based on this single alone: she'll continue her post-si brand of minimalist pop-transcendentalism, it'll be less folky than limonysal and unplugged, she'll continue to play around with 'love' songs as political statements, and her sounds will once again try to reconcile the acoustic w/ electronic, folk w/ cotemporary, classicism w/ (post)modernism, etc, etc, etc all with grace and ease. Her vocal will sound like she just don't care, of course. Ukulele, stand up bass, obo, check, check, check. super excited and scared, especially that she's collaborating w/ koko stambuk (whose persona and music sound super douchee). i guess all i can do is what the song says: 'mientras tanto apuesto todo por saber'

very interesting argument Deo...but the fact that there's all of this stuff that'll be reconciled doesn't piss me off. It makes me EXCITED.

WoW Deo you write pretty good, and actually, just made me love her even more hehe. For all those reasons I love her. Yes I enjoy her Bueninvento era and it's nice, but her music evolved into something truly amazing.
